Trump Announces Immediate Russia-Ukraine Energy Ceasefire, Warns Both Sides Not to Break It
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to an immediate “energy ceasefire,” calling on both sides to strictly respect the arrangement.
“Effective immediately, there is an ENERGY CEASEFIRE in the War between Russia and Ukraine. Both parties have agreed. Do not break it!” Trump declared in a social media post on Sunday.
The announcement comes amid escalating attacks on energy infrastructure, including Russian strikes on Ukrainian power facilities and Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had said Kyiv was prepared to halt attacks on Russian refineries if Moscow stopped striking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
However, the scope and enforcement of the proposed ceasefire remain unclear. Neither Moscow nor Kyiv had officially confirmed the agreement at the time of reporting, and Zelenskyy indicated that Trump’s announcement was new information to him.
If implemented, the arrangement could temporarily reduce attacks on critical energy facilities as the Russia-Ukraine war continues into another winter.
