The Roads Authority (RA) has warned that it will reject applications to register Hong Kong-imported vehicles whose documents cannot be verified, and may refer fraudulent cases to the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) for investigation and possible prosecution.
Its chief executive officer (CEO), Mbahupu Hippy Tjivikua, said in a media release on Friday that the warning comes after the authority, in recent times, observed a significant increase in the number of applications involving vehicles whose registration, ownership documentation, or other particulars cannot be verified or are fraudulent upon inquiry with the Hong Kong authorities.
He said registering such vehicles would be non-compliance with the Road Traffic and Transport Regulations of 2001; therefore, any application that fails this verification will be rejected.
“Any vehicle presented with fraudulent, altered, or unverifiable documentation will not be registered, and the matter may be referred to NamPol for investigation and possible prosecution,” he said.
The RA, he added, will continue to accept and process applications for the registration of Hong Kong vehicles, subject to verification of the vehicle’s registration and documentation with the relevant Hong Kong authorities.
Tjivikua strongly urged applicants to ensure that all documents and particulars submitted are genuine, accurate, and capable of being verified by the Hong Kong authorities before submitting an application.
