Jesse Love Holds Onto the Points Lead
The NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series championship battle became even more intense following Saturday’s race at Talladega Superspeedway. With only two races remaining in the Chase, Jesse Love continues to lead the standings, but his advantage has shrunk considerably after a dramatic afternoon at the Alabama superspeedway.
Love finished third in The Progress Group 250, doing enough to maintain his position at the top of the championship standings. However, Justin Allgaier closed the gap to just 19 points, setting up an important stretch of racing as the series heads toward its season finale.
Love now holds 2,401 points, while Allgaier sits second with 2,382. Corey Day remains third with 2,372 points, just 29 behind the leader. Sheldon Creed occupies fourth, 50 points back, while Carson Kvapil rounds out the top five, trailing Love by 59 points.
With so little separating the leading contenders, the next two races could determine the championship.

Sammy Smith Steals the Show at Talladega
While the championship contenders battled for valuable points, Sammy Smith delivered the biggest moment of the afternoon. The JR Motorsports driver made a last lap pass to defeat teammate Kvapil by just 0.084 seconds, earning his first O’Reilly Series victory in 53 races.
Kvapil dominated much of the event, leading 67 of the 94 laps, but Smith made his move when it mattered most. Love finished third, followed by Allgaier and Creed, meaning four of the top five finishers were championship contenders.
The result was particularly important for Kvapil, who gained ground on Love despite missing out on the victory. Allgaier also benefited by trimming his deficit to the championship leader.
Meanwhile, the Talladega race eliminated Taylor Gray, Austin Hill, Brandon Jones, Parker Retzlaff and Rajah Caruth from championship contention.
Martinsville Sets Up a Critical Showdown
The O’Reilly Series now turns its attention to Martinsville Speedway on October 31 before the championship concludes at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Love remains in control, but Allgaier is close enough to make a serious challenge. Day, Creed and Kvapil also remain within striking distance.
After Talladega, the championship picture is clearer, but the outcome is far from decided. With two races left, every position and every point could make the difference in the 2026 NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series title fight.
