PUTRAJAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today attended the Majlis Ilmu Madani, featuring renowned Turkish scholar Sheikh Prof Dr Muhammad Fadhil al-Jilani al-Hasani, who delivered a lecture on Imam al-Ghazali's exegesis of Surah Yusuf.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan and more than 100 guests also attended the event at the Seri Perdana Complex.
Speaking at the event, Anwar expressed his appreciation to Sheikh Muhammad Fadhil for delivering the lecture and recalled the scholar's guidance and encouragement during his difficult times.
"He provided me with strong guidance, nurturing and encouragement during difficult times in the past.
"That is why when he arrived yesterday, I met him and he spoke about Imam al-Ghazali's exegesis of Surah Yusuf. So, I thought we should make the most of this brief opportunity (at this event)," he said.
The one-hour lecture explored Imam al-Ghazali's exegesis of Surah Yusuf, focusing on the understanding of its contents and lessons.
Zulkifli said the lecture provided an in-depth analysis of the exegesis, helping to broaden public understanding of Surah Yusuf.
"This is a very profound exegesis and analysis by Imam al-Ghazali, expounded and authenticated by Sheikh Muhammad Fadhil," he told reporters after the event.
The Majlis Ilmu Madani programme, held at the Prime Minister's official residence, is part of efforts to foster a knowledge-loving society that values good manners and morals.
Anwar initiated the programme after taking office as prime minister on Nov 24, 2022. It is now held nationwide.
