King Charles III has drawn attention on social media after quoting a Hadith of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in Arabic during a state banquet welcoming Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq to the United Kingdom.
The British monarch cited a passage from Sahih Muslim 2544, which appears in The Book of the Merits of the Companions under a chapter titled “The Virtues of the People of Oman.”
The Hadith translates to: “If you were to come to the people of Oman, they would have neither reviled you nor beaten you.”
A clip of King Charles reciting the Hadith in Arabic has since gone viral on social media.
The moment came during a banquet held as part of Sultan Haitham’s three-day state visit, the first state visit to Britain by an Omani sultan in 44 years.
During his address, King Charles praised Oman’s diplomatic efforts and its role in promoting peace in the region. He highlighted the country’s commitment to maintaining dialogue with different parties and recognized its efforts to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
“Oman’s role across the Gulf and her ‘constructive neutrality’, as you put it, matters far beyond Hormuz, and is worthy of our utmost respect,” the king said.
Sultan Haitham also emphasized Oman’s preference for diplomacy in a region affected by conflict, describing it as an independent path that Britain had supported.
Oman has played a mediating role in talks between the United States and Iran since the US-Israel war against Iran began in late February. The country’s location near the strategically important Strait of Hormuz has also made regional security a key concern.
The visit includes discussions on security, trade, and investment, with Sultan Haitham scheduled to meet British Prime Minister Andy Burnham at Downing Street.
