The General Officer Commanding, 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj Gen Auwalu Mahmuda, has charged troops of the newly established 321 Artillery Regiment in Iseyin, Oyo State, to deal decisively with security challenges, remain vigilant and maintain professional conduct within their area of responsibility.
The GOC, according to a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director, 2 Division Army Public Relations, Lt Col Jonah Danjuma, on Sunday, in Ibadan, the state capital, gave the charge during his maiden operational visit to the regiment’s temporary location on Saturday.
Highlighting the security challenges in the area, particularly the regiment’s proximity to the Old Oyo National Park, Mahmuda said, “I want to use this period to encourage you to deal decisively with security challenges in those communities; remain vigilant and maintain professional conduct within your areas of responsibility.
“I want you (troops) to take all necessary operational measures to prevent criminal elements from gaining a foothold in your AOR and to bring glory to the Nigerian Army,” the GOC further admonished.
He, therefore, expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, for the expansion of the Nigerian Army, saying the development would greatly enhance the Army’s capacity to address contemporary security challenges.
“Let me, again, urge you all to perform your artillery role effectively. I want to also charge you to ensure you maintain cordial relationships with your host community,” the GOC advised.
The visit underscored the GOC’s commitment to ensuring that newly established formations and units under his command settle in and perform their assigned responsibilities effectively.
It also provided an opportunity for him to interact with troops deployed to various locations across the Division’s area of responsibility.
