I am writing to highlight the alarming misuse of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to create fake videos and images of individuals for blackmail.
This emerging threat can severely damage a person’s reputation, privacy and wellbeing.
Offenders are increasingly exploiting AI tools to create manipulated media, commonly known as deepfakes, which are then used to threaten victims, demand money or force them to comply with harmful demands.
Such activities are unethical and potentially criminal and must be addressed before more people are harmed.
The authorities must take swift and strict action against those responsible. There is also an urgent need to raise public awareness so that people can recognise and report such crimes.
Safe and accessible reporting channels should be established to ensure that victims can seek help without fear of stigma or further exploitation.
I hope the concerned authorities will treat this matter with the urgency it deserves and take immediate steps to prevent the misuse of AI while protecting the rights, dignity and safety of the public.
