Transport Minister and Hyderabad district in-charge Ponnam Prabhakar said that the Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar Graduates’ MLC election is politically significant for the Congress, as a victory would help the party demonstrate its strength in Hyderabad and strengthen its prospects in future elections in the region.
Addressing a preparatory meeting on Thursday, he said that the party candidate, Sama Ram Mohan Reddy, has been selected following consultations with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud and senior party leaders. He asked every leader and worker to take responsibility for the candidate’s victory.
The Minister stressed the need to complete the enrolment of all eligible graduates as voters by November 6. With the festival season over, he wanted party cadres to launch a full-fledged field-level campaign from the following day.
Special attention should be paid to identifying eligible graduates working in government and private schools, colleges and other institutions, including teachers, employees and advocates, and ensuring their registration as voters.
Given the spread of the constituency across Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Mahabubnagar districts, senior leaders would be assigned specific responsibilities to oversee the enrolment drive.
He added that the government was spending thousands of crores on Hyderabad’s comprehensive development, and asked party leaders to take the details of development to people. Ministers Mohammed Azharuddin, government adviser V. Hanumantha Rao, MP Mallu Ravi, Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav, MLAs Naveen Yadav and Sri Ganesh, and MLC Balmoori Venkat, were among present.
