UK: Man dies after entering tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park

A man has died after entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park in Doncaster, England, prompting an emergency response and the evacuation of the wildlife attraction.

South Yorkshire Police said the incident happened shortly after 1.30 pm on Saturday when the tiger attacked the man, leaving him seriously injured. Emergency services arrived at the scene, but the man was pronounced dead. His family have been informed.

Police said the tiger was uninjured and remained in its enclosure, adding that it posed “no wider risk to the public”.

The park was evacuated and closed for the rest of the weekend following the incident.

In a statement issued earlier, Yorkshire Wildlife Park said: “Our emergency response procedures were immediately activated, and emergency services are currently attending the scene.

“We are working closely with the authorities to ascertain exactly what happened.”

South Yorkshire Police confirmed that it had “received reports of a man entering a tiger enclosure at Yorkshire Wildlife Park” on Saturday afternoon.

“The tiger subsequently attacked the man, resulting in serious injury,” police said.

“Emergency services attended and sadly, despite the best efforts of medical personnel, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Yorkshire Wildlife Park, which opened in 2009, describes itself as a “walk-through wildlife adventure”. The attraction houses several species, including lions, giraffes, tigers, leopards and black rhinos.

Its ‘Land of the Tigers’ section features a 300-metre-long raised walkway that allows visitors to observe the animals as they move around their enclosure, according to the park’s website.
