Hurts was “in the hospital late night in London and upon returning to the hotel at 3:00 a.m. local time, he was able to sleep until the team left for the stadium at 10:30 a.m.,” sources told NFL insider Ian Rapoport, ESPN reported.
Hurts has since been diagnosed with multiple blood clots in his lungs and has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.
The quarterback’s agent, Nicole Lynn, confirmed Hurts would miss the rest of the season after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and bilateral pulmonary emboli. A pulmonary embolism is a blood clot travels to the lung from another part of the body, per the Cleveland Clinic.
“After further testing and monitoring, the current diagnosis is deep vein thrombosis as well as bilateral pulmonary emboli. He is clinically stable and has no significant functional limitations,” Lynn said in a statement on Monday, Oct. 19.
Hurts will begin taking a blood thinner, which does not allow him to participate “in any contact activities, including football,” his agent said.
