A suspected bandit leader identified as Wakiyu has reportedly been killed during a security operation in Sabuwa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
Wakiyu, who was allegedly affiliated with the criminal group led by Kachalla Maha, was killed in Damari during an operation involving troops, police personnel and C-Watch operatives.
He was reportedly linked to a series of attacks and criminal activities that had raised security concerns among residents of Matazu and neighbouring communities.
The operation forms part of sustained efforts by the Nigerian Army’s 17 Brigade and other security agencies to dismantle armed groups and curb banditry across Katsina State.
Security forces are expected to sustain the offensive and intensify operations against criminal networks in a bid to restore peace and protect residents in affected communities.
The circumstances surrounding the encounter and the reported killing have yet to be independently verified.
