The Washington Nationals could decide to make significant changes this offseason.
For much of the past half-decade, the NL East club has been in rebuild mode while acquiring future stars James Wood and CJ Abrams.
Abrams, often involved in trade discussions, had the best offensive season of his career in 2026.
He hit 33 home runs, drove in 106 runs, and had a 127 OPS+ while stealing 34 bases in 40 attempts.
Many teams have inquired about a trade for Abrams, but the Nationals have not found an overwhelming offer. That could change this winter, per FanSided's Robert Murray.
"Abrams has been the subject of repeated trade interest from teams, but the Nationals have held onto the star slugger. Teams are expected to keep calling about Abrams, but Paul Toboni and the front office have set a very high asking price on their star infielder," Murray wrote.
Abrams is a shortstop by trade but could move to second base or the outfield in upcoming years.

Either way, he's only 26 years old, and the Nationals are smart to have a high asking price.
"There is skepticism that he’ll be traded, but it’s easy to see a scenario where another team meets Toboni’s asking price," Murray added.
If Washington feels it's not ready for contention in 2027, Abrams could be shipped to a team in need of a left-handed bat for several prospects.
