The Detroit Red Wings came back against the Seattle Kraken, but they couldn’t come all the way back.
Scoring three third-period goals to rally from a 3-0 deficit, the Red Wings eventually lost 4-3 to the Kraken in the shootout. Bobby McMann’s goal in the fourth round of the shootout gave the Kraken the victory and the extra point in the opener of Detroit’s four-game road trip on Tuesday.
Mackie Samoskevich scored his fourth goal of the season to open the scoring for the Kraken in the first period. His neatly placed wrist shot just inside the post on the short side beat Detroit goalie Daniil Tarasov.

During a second-period power play advantage, Ryker Evans increased the Seattle margin to 2-0. Detroit penalty killer Michael Rasmussen was checked as he sought to clear the puck up the boards. Instead, the puck skidded across the middle of the defensive zone. Evans intercepted Rasmussen’s clearance attempt and whipped a shot past Tarasov.
It was 3-0 later in the period. Detroit’s Andrew Copp cleanly lost a defensive-zone draw to Berkly Catton, and Brandon Montour snapped a quick shot past Tarasov.

Viktor Arvidsson got Detroit on the board early in the third period. Using Emmitt Finnie as a screen, Arvidsson wired a high shot past Kraken netminder Philipp Grubauer. It was Arvidsson’s fourth goal of the season.
Just 59 seconds later on a Red Wings power play, Lucas Raymond jammed a rebound past Grubauer for his first goal of the season.
Detroit was on another power play in the dying seconds of regulation. With Tarasov on the bench for an extra attacker, Alex DeBrincat scored his sixth goal of the season at 19:43 to send the game into overtime.
Takeaways
Tarasov allowed more than one goal for the first time in three starts for Detroit. Arvidsson’s goal was his 449th NHL point. It was his first five-on-five goal of the season after scoring three times on the power play.
DeBrincat is leading the Red Wings in goals (six), assists (five), and points (11). The last player to lead Detroit in three of those offensive categories at season’s end was Dylan Larkin (32-47-79) in 2022-23.
