A confrontation between a Korean livestreamer and a tuk-tuk driver in Bangkok has divided viewers over a difficult question: where is the line between a tourist’s right to create content in public and another person’s wish not to appear in it?
The footage, recorded during a livestream by Kick creator TAEMIN1998, shows a heated argument after a tuk-tuk driver believed he was being filmed. The streamer says he is recording himself rather than the driver. The driver repeatedly tells him to stop filming and leave.
For reference, in Thailand filming in public is generally allowed without asking everyone’s permission, but that does not give streamers an unrestricted right to record or broadcast people. Privacy laws may apply, depending on how the footage is used.
In practice, filming becomes more sensitive when a person has clearly objected, when footage identifies them in a potentially damaging context, or when it is posted with misleading claims. Private venues may also set their own rules on recording.
The exchange then escalates. Something appears to hit or graze the streamer’s face, and a second man later enters the frame. The camera jolts as TAEMIN1998 appears to be struck again. He later says he was hit several times.
TAEMIN1998 is a Korean livestreamer whose content centres on travelling and interacting with people in public. His Thailand broadcasts were part of an early-October trip that also took him through Bangkok and Phuket.

Commenters on the Reddit forum where the footage was reposted disagreed over whether he should be regarded as a “nuisance streamer” — a label commonly used online for creators whose content is seen as disruptive or provocative.
One user, called him “very much a nuisance streamer.” Another, CreamSodaCassanova, disagreed, describing him as “not a nuisance streamer” but someone who could be unaware and “not street smart.” These are personal assessments, not independent findings of Khaosod English.
The footage nevertheless drew a broader debate over conduct. Reddit user 8forever argued that the streamer should have stepped back after the driver objected, writing: “You’re a guest. Read the room. Respect people’s privacy.” The commenter also said people should not treat “ordinary people as unwilling extras” in a livestream, while adding that violence was not the right response.
Other users addressed the violence from the driver, saying that even if the driver believed he was being filmed, that “really doesn’t make attacking someone acceptable.”
That is the uncomfortable centre of this video. It is reasonable to believe that TAEMIN1998 handled the encounter poorly, or should have lowered the camera and left earlier, while also believing that apparent violence was not an acceptable response.
Tourists have a responsibility to be respectful guests. Thailand’s reputation for warmth should never be read as an invitation to treat local people, workers or public spaces as props for a livestream. Recording strangers at close range, challenging people after they object, or allowing an audience to encourage confrontation can quickly turn a minor misunderstanding into something uglier.
At the same time, visitors should be able to expect disagreements to be settled without violence. A dispute over a phone camera, a fare or a misunderstanding shouldn’t devolve into conversations about nationality and stereotypes.
The clip is a useful reminder for both tourists and locals: respect is reciprocal. Put the camera down when a situation is becoming tense. Walk away when an argument is going nowhere. And do not answer perceived disrespect with violence.
