Nashville SC is the first MLS club to clinch a spot in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup. The team has guaranteed a finish no worse than third in the league's overall standings, with matches still remaining on the 2026 schedule.
The math is simple: Nashville's position is now unreachable by any chasing club, even in a worst-case run to close out the season. That removes any dependency on other results and hands the front office an international fixture to plan around a year in advance.
What's next for Nashville
Qualification doesn't end the ambition. Third place is the floor, not the ceiling, and Nashville still has reason to push for a higher finish before the playoffs begin. A stronger regular-season position carries weight heading into the postseason, where seeding and momentum matter.
The early clinch also gives the roster-building process a head start. Playing continental and domestic competitions at once demands depth — injuries, suspensions and fatigue all hit harder across a packed calendar — so locking in the Champions Cup spot now lets the front office plan accordingly instead of waiting on the regular season's final weeks.
Why the Champions Cup matters
The Concacaf Champions Cup is the region's top club competition, pitting MLS sides against teams from Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. For Nashville, it's a chance to test the squad against different styles and raise its profile beyond the domestic league — part of a broader push by MLS clubs to build credibility on the continental stage.
