Ryan Clark is just not convinced about Brock Purdy’s case of being the best quarterback in the NFL with players like Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen still playing.
The San Francisco 49ers QB has been in splendid form for his team, recording 1,460 passing yards at a 69.6% completion rate with 14 touchdowns to his name.
He had another decent performance against the Washington Commanders, where he threw for 264 yards and had a touchdown in a 23-17 win for the 49ers.
With him putting up big performances and the 49ers holding a 6-0 record, Brock Purdy has earned recognition in the MVP conversation.
Ryan Clark not convinced about Brock Purdy being the best QB
Purdy has been sensational ever since the 49ers took a chance and drafted him with the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He has orchestrated multiple deep playoff runs and a Super Bowl appearance.
However, to be named the best QB in the league, Purdy still has to outclass Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.
“As long as Patrick Mahomes & Josh Allen are alive it’ll be hard to call Brock Purdy the best quarterback in football… MVP Purdy right now,” Clark said on X.
Interestingly, Purdy is yet to win any game played against Mahomes and Allen. He has been beaten by Mahomes in the Super Bowl and the regular season. Meanwhile Allen’s Bills dominated the 49ers in a 35-10 win in 2024.
This season, Mahomes and Purdy are the only two QBs among the three who have an unbeaten record. Allen has only lost one game, but since then his team have looked brilliant and are firm favourites to win the AFC.
Purdy definitely has elevated his game, but to Clark’s point, he is yet to prove that he is the best QB in the league. Allen and Mahomes both have the ability to shoulder their teams to deep playoff runs. Purdy has also managed to do that, despite injuries, but it will be interesting to see if he can sustain the brilliance.
Currently, Purdy might be a favourite to win the MVP award, which will only help him add laurels to his resume. If he is to topple Allen and Mahomes, the 49ers QB will have to deliver some jaw-dropping, highlight-worthy performances, as that is what separates him from the other two superstars.
