Abass, who currently serves as the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for South C ward, used the meeting to underscore the economic significance of the bodaboda industry, describing it as a vital pillar in the sustainable development of Lang'ata Constituency.
Bodaboda sector and economic rights
Central to the discussions was the recognition that informal-sector workers, including bodaboda riders, are entitled to economic and social rights that guarantee a reasonable standard of living.
Abass emphasised that such rights form the foundation upon which livelihoods in the sector rest and must be actively protected and promoted.
"This morning, We held a fruitful engagement with South C boda boda riders, discussing youth empowerment, SACCO registration, road safety, discipline, security, and economic opportunities. We also extended our empowerment efforts to the women who support riders daily through kibandas, hotels, and kiosks, recognising their vital role in sustaining livelihoods and supporting the local economy. Our focus remains on inclusive empowerment that reaches every hardworking member of our community," Abass said.
The aspirant also stressed that capacity building remains a core priority for the sector's growth, pointing to the need for enhanced skills training and broader access to education for operators as essential steps towards professionalising and strengthening the industry.
Abass Encouraged by Operators' Resilience
Following the engagement, Omondi expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the meeting, noting that the operators demonstrated a positive and forward-looking attitude towards the sector's prospects.
He said he was encouraged by the optimism and resilience reflected in how bodaboda riders view the future, describing the mood at the gathering as constructive and motivating.
The meeting forms part of what appears to be an early groundwork campaign by Omondi as he positions himself ahead of the 2027 parliamentary race for the Lang'ata seat.
