The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says it will support 1,500 adolescents in Afghanistan by the end of 2026 through vocational skills training and the provision of new opportunities.
The organisation wrote on its X account on Tuesday, October 20, that, under a programme supported by UNICEF and funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), girls in Mazar-e-Sharif are learning embroidery skills.
The programme was launched to empower adolescents and provide them with opportunities to improve their lives.
UNICEF says this support will help adolescents acquire practical skills and create a safer future that is more resilient to challenges.
This comes as girls and women in Afghanistan face widespread restrictions on education and employment, with fewer opportunities available for them to acquire vocational skills.
