By Zoila Palma: A flood alert remains in effect across Belize as additional rainfall is expected over the weekend.
The National Meteorological Service (NMS) forecasts between 2 and 4 inches of rain in portions of the country over on Sunday.
Residents in low-lying, flood-prone and riverside communities are urged to remain alert and monitor official weather updates.
The NMS warns that smaller streams and tributaries could rise quickly.
Although several rivers remain at normal or below-normal levels, conditions could change rapidly as rainfall accumulates.
Residents are advised to exercise caution near rivers, streams and low-level crossings and never attempt to cross flooded roads or waterways.
