Rede Expressos has launched a new campaign offering 100,000 bus tickets for just €2.50, in a bid to encourage more people to use public transport as fuel and motoring costs continue to rise.
The campaign, called Poucochinho, began on Thursday, October 22, and applies to journeys across Portugal taken up to November 30. However, tickets must be purchased by November 12.
The operator says hundreds of destinations are included, opening up the possibility of travelling between some of Portugal’s best-known cities for little more than the price of a coffee.
Travellers departing Lisbon can, for example, find journeys to Fátima, Coimbra, Évora and Covilhã, while some Porto-Lisbon trips are also available for €2.50.
The exact fares and availability depend on the route and date, with the 100,000 promotional tickets being sold while stocks last.
“When fuel prices rise, the pressure is felt throughout the entire chain, including bus operations,” said Nelson Silva, managing director of Rede Expressos.
“Even so, we want to show that this increase does not inevitably have to translate into more expensive journeys.
“By encouraging more people to choose public transport, we can gain efficiency, strengthen the network and continue offering travel at more competitive prices.”
