The Lagos State Government has announced plans for the controlled demolition of the structurally compromised Great Nigeria Insurance House on Lagos Island, warning residents and motorists to avoid the immediate vicinity during the operation.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday.
He said access to the area would be restricted throughout the demolition exercise, while temporary traffic diversions might be introduced as necessary.
Oke-Osanyintolu advised members of the public to use alternative routes where necessary and comply with instructions from emergency responders and traffic management officials.
He added that LASEMA, in collaboration with relevant government agencies, would coordinate safety arrangements throughout the operation.
The government urged residents and motorists to cooperate with emergency personnel to ensure the exercise is carried out safely and to minimise disruption around the affected area.
