Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested two suspected oil thieves conveying suspected illegally refined petroleum products on a motorcycle at Ndoni Gate in Rivers State.
This was disclosed by a counter-terrorism expert, Zagazola Makama, in a post on X.
Zagazola said the suspects were apprehended at about 7:55 pm on October 18 by troops of the 103 Battalion (Motorised) during an anti-illegal bunkering operation.
He added that the suspects were conveying three sacks of suspected illegally refined kerosene on a motorcycle when the troops intercepted them.
According to him, the suspects, alongside the recovered petroleum products and motorcycle, were taken into military custody for further investigation and necessary action.
The security expert noted that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to combat illegal petroleum refining, oil theft and the transportation of illicit petroleum products in the Niger Delta.
“Further details on the identities of the suspects and the quantity of petroleum products recovered were not immediately available,” he said.
