KUALA LUMPUR: Cases involving former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Toh Puan Na'imah Abdul Khalid are among several high-profile court proceedings scheduled for this week.
The High Court is scheduled to hear Najib's application on Wednesday to stay the execution of his 15-year prison sentence and RM11.4 billion fine relating to the misappropriation of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds.
Judge Noor Ruwena Md Nurdin fixed the hearing for Wednesday during case management attended by Najib's lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah, and Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam.
The hearing was brought forward after the defence filed a certificate of urgency.
Meanwhile, the Federal Court will hear on Thursday two legal questions raised by Na'imah, widow of the late former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, in relation to charges of failing to declare assets.
On Feb 29, 2024, Na'imah applied to refer legal questions to the High Court concerning Sections 30(5), 36(2) and 62 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, as well as Section 32(3)(b) of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
The High Court will also hear an inter partes (between parties) application for an interim injunction against blogger Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, better known as Papagomo, in a lawsuit filed by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
On June 19, the court granted the MCMC an ex parte (one-sided) interim injunction restraining Wan Muhammad Azri from publishing defamatory statements against the commission. It also ordered an immediate halt to the publication and dissemination of harmful online content on social media.

They also said they did not know how the victim sustained the injuries that led to his death.
