Overview
Wi-Fi dongles provide internet access through SIM cards, making them useful for laptops, travel, remote work, and backup connectivity.
Battery capacity, cellular network support, Wi-Fi speed, and device compatibility determine how well a dongle performs in everyday use.
Native 5G connectivity differs from 5G SIM compatibility, making modem specifications and supported network bands essential when choosing a hotspot.
Most Amazon India listings for a Wi-Fi dongle under Rs. 3,000 carry a 4G/5G label. The tag suggests a bargain. Often, it describes the SIM, not the modem inside. A portable Wi-Fi hotspot with a SIM card still helps when home broadband fails.
This guide compares four 4G LTE USB dongle and pocket hotspot options. It also explains what the 4G/5G tag really promises.
How these deals were assessed: Prices, specifications, and ratings come from Amazon India. Advertised speeds are maximums, not measured results. Since prices and ratings change often, the exact model and seller deserve a check before purchase.
Quick Comparison
Amazon Basics 4G LTE Dongle: Best for Brand Familiarity
The Type-C version is listed at Rs. 2,299 against an MRP of Rs. 4,999. It shows 4.2 stars from 19 ratings, with 500+ units bought last month. A later snapshot shows about 4.0 stars from roughly 20 ratings, so the score is still early. Sibling versions exist, such as a 2200 mAh model at Rs. 2,449. The title and battery size should match before ordering.
Why buy: A familiar brand, a built-in battery, and Type-C charging.
Watch out: Few ratings and look-alike sibling models.
Melbon T708 4G USB Dongle: Lowest-Cost Option
The white laptop version has 3.4 stars from about 470 ratings. One snapshot lists it at Rs. 1,399, while another page shows Rs. 1,299. As a USB stick with no listed battery, it needs a laptop, an adapter, or a power bank.
The listing calls it tri band without explanation. The term may refer to cellular bands, not three Wi-Fi bands. Older deal posts show prices between about Rs. 1,100 and Rs. 1,500 in 2024 and 2025, with Rs. 1,099 in January 2025. Today's price is typical, not a record low.
Why buy: The cheapest option, with the most ratings.
Watch out: Average ratings, and it is not a standalone pocket hotspot.
GameSir 4G/5G LTE Dongle: Worth Considering for Battery Capacity
The listing promises a 300 Mbps Wi-Fi hotspot, all-SIM support, and a 3000 mAh battery. The 300 Mbps figure covers the Wi-Fi side only. The 4G network speed is not stated. The black version costs Rs. 1,699, and other colors run from Rs. 1,799 to Rs. 1,899. Each variant has only 1 to 10 ratings, ranging from 2.6 to 5.0 stars.
Reliability remains unproven. A larger battery is a spec advantage, not proof of longer runtime. Near-identical spec text appears on PunnkFunnk and NPTCL listings. These may be the same hardware under different names, though that is an inference, not a confirmed fact.
Why buy: More battery capacity at a low price.
Watch out: Too few ratings to judge quality. A test on day one is wise.
Helett TravelFi Neo: Clearest About What It Is
Helett TravelFi Neo accepts 5G SIMs but runs on 4G LTE. It offers up to 150 Mbps, a 2100 mAh battery, a 1.5-inch screen, and a SIM adapter. A category snapshot showed Rs. 2,443 against an MRP of Rs. 4,600.
Helett also runs its own website, which gives the product a clearer identity than most generic listings. No rating appeared in the snapshot, so recent reviews matter here. Helett sells similar TravelFi listings, so the Neo name needs confirming.
Why buy: Honest labeling and an on-device screen.
Watch out: No visible ratings yet, and a mid-range price.
Truth About 5G Dongles
Modem specifications and supported bands are crucial for verifying true connectivity. The first three listings omit 5G modem details entirely, leaving native 5G functionality unverified. Furthermore, the Hewlett-Packard listing explicitly states that its 5G SIM support operates on a 4G LTE network.
Real 5G devices cost far more. An AUSHA 5G model is listed at Rs. 15,999 to Rs. 17,999. The Acer Connect M4 5G hotspot costs Rs. 22,999. Both prices come from Amazon India listings. One buyer review of the Acer on a retailer page reported a 4G-only connection with a Jio SIM and better results with Airtel. That is a single report, not a confirmed compatibility problem.

Buying Tips
USB stick or battery hotspot? A USB stick suits one laptop. A battery hotspot is easier to share across phones and tablets.
Check bands, not just speed. The seller can share the supported LTE bands. These should match the operator's bands. Local signal matters more than the printed maximum.
Ignore MRP. Listings here show MRPs from Rs. 3,999 to Rs. 5,000 whatever the price. A "60% off" tag says little. Today's price is best compared with its history.
Read the SIM line. One GameSir USB stick lists all networks except BSNL.
Test within the return window. Insert a SIM, run a speed test and keep the box.

Final Thoughts
Native 5G hotspots may become more affordable as India's 5G ecosystem expands, but buyers should not pay a premium for a label that the hardware cannot support. Check the modem specifications, supported network bands, and real connectivity capabilities before purchasing. In this price range, verified 4G performance is a better investment than an unproven 5G promise.

FAQs
1. Is a "4G/5G" Wi-Fi dongle really 5G?
Usually not. In most cases, the label means the device accepts a 5G SIM card. The modem inside often runs on 4G LTE. Native 5G needs a 5G modem, so the specification sheet matters more than the product title.
2. What is the difference between a USB dongle and a pocket hotspot?
A USB dongle draws power from a laptop, an adapter or a power bank. It suits one device. A pocket hotspot has its own battery and shares the connection with several phones and tablets.
3. Does a bigger battery mean longer runtime?
Not always. A 3000 mAh battery is a stronger spec than 2100 mAh on paper. Real runtime depends on signal strength, the number of connected devices and the hardware itself. Since none of these devices were tested, runtime figures should be treated as unconfirmed.
4. Will these dongles work with any SIM card?
Most listings claim all-SIM support, but the claim needs a check. One GameSir listing excludes BSNL. The supported LTE bands should also match the operator's bands. Testing with a SIM inside the return window is the safest step.
5. Are the "60% off" discounts on Amazon real?
They say little. MRPs on these listings range from Rs. 3,999 to Rs. 5,000 whatever the selling price. A better method is to compare today's price with its past prices on deal-tracking sites.
