The Minnesota Vikings have started off the season with an impressive 5-0 record. At this point in time, they are one of the best teams in the NFL by record and are sitting alone atop the competitive NFC North division.
Of course, there is plenty of football left to be played. Kevin O’Connell and company have gotten off to a strong start, but keeping that strong start going will be difficult.
With that being said, the Vikings have put themselves in a position to be buyers ahead of the NFL trade deadline on November 10. There are a few areas that could use some help for Minnesota to cement itself as a true Super Bowl contender.
One of those areas could come on the offensive line.
Keeping that in mind, an intriguing trade scenario has been suggested for the Vikings to consider in the coming weeks.
Minnesota Vikings Urged to Target Trade for $80 Million Star
Phil Mackey of Purple Daily believes that Minnesota shoould target Indianapolis Colts’ eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson.
“So you’d be acquiring a rental player, and then I think part of the deal is you’d want to lock him up to an extension obviously,” Mackey said. “Assuming that you’re going to pay him as a top five guard going forward, I would give up a Day 2 pick for Quenton Nelson.”
Standing in at 6-foot-5 and 330 pounds, Nelson has been one of the best offensive guards in the NFL for quite some time. He was drafted by the Colts with the No. 6 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and has played his whole career in Indianapolis thus far.
Would the Colts actually entertain trade offers for Nelson? That remains the biggest question about this suggested scenario.
If Indianapolis was open to the idea, the Vikings should come calling. Adding Nelson would solidify the offensive line in front of Kyler Murray and would help Minnesota take a big step towards being a legitimate championship caliber team.
