Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Trade Budi Santoso conveyed commitment to promoting the growth of Indonesia’s modest fashion industry in both domestic and international markets.
At the IN2MOTIONFEST x JMFW 2026 fashion show at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC) on Thursday (October 15), he explained that the event was a collaboration between the Ministry of Trade and Bank Indonesia to further unlock the potential of Indonesia's modest fashion sector.
"Our domestic fashion market offers significant opportunities, and we must capitalize on this potential by developing local fashion products. Modest fashion has demonstrated considerable potential, which we must further develop to maximize its reach in domestic and international markets," the minister said in a statement on Friday.
One of the efforts pursued by the ministry is encouraging retail partnerships through collaboration with the Association of Indonesian Retailers and Shopping Center Tenants (Hippindo).
Through business matching with modern retailers affiliated with Hippindo, fashion entrepreneurs can explore opportunities to market competitive domestic fashion products in department stores and shopping malls.
"Our fashion products are gaining increasing demand in international markets. The ministry continues to promote Indonesian products through its overseas trade representatives. Entrepreneurs interested in exporting can join us in business matching," Santoso explained.
Modest fashion is one of Indonesia's promising sectors, recording US$5.97 billion in exports from January to August 2026, representing an annual growth of 2.89 percent.
In 2025, the value of Indonesian modest fashion exports reached US$8.67 billion, a 3 percent increase compared to 2024.
According to the State of the Global Islamic Economy (SGIE) 2025/26 report, global Muslim consumer spending on clothing and footwear reached US$347 billion in 2024.
This value is projected to increase to US$444 billion by 2029. The report also ranked Indonesia first in the world in the modest fashion sector in 2025.
