The national event, co-hosted by Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, was led by President William Ruto alongside Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and thousands of Kenyans who gathered to mark the holiday.
Samuel Kimeto makes a stylish entrance
Footage from the celebrations captured the moment a grey Toyota Land Cruiser TXL pulled up, with a bodyguard standing ready at the rear door.
After a brief exchange with fellow officers who appeared to be checking who the occupants were, the door swung open, and Kimeto stepped out in unmistakable style.
He wore a black cowboy hat, a black suit, a white shirt and a red tie, accessorised with a walking stick that only added to his commanding presence.
Despite his advanced age, he climbed the stadium stairs with remarkable strength. His arrival was formally announced over the PA system, and he was accompanied by two ladies as he was escorted to his seat.
The rest of the event was equally memorable. Gospel musician Emmy Kosgei, Pastor Joel Kimetto and Marakwet Daughter all delivered energetic performances, while Gogo Basilisa entertained the crowd with traditional Kalenjin songs and dance.
The Maroon Commandos Band played popular classics as military personnel staged a ceremonial parade, with aircraft displays adding extra spectacle to the afternoon.
One of the most talked-about moments came when Pastor Joel Kimetto performed his hit Uro Uro.
How Ruto's egg business works
In other news, Ruto’s egg business at his Sugoi farm began with 5,000 chickens acquired by Rachel from India.
The enterprise now includes modern poultry facilities and industrial incubators for hatching chicks.
In 2021, Ruto claimed his farm produced 150,000 eggs daily, generating approximately KSh1.5 million in revenue.
