The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) formally reaffirmed the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) as its official parliamentary interlocutor for Myanmar for the fifth consecutive year during its 153rd Assembly held in Arusha, Tanzania, from Oct. 5 to 9.
The global organization granted the delegation non-voting observer status while explicitly refusing to recognize the military regime in Naypyidaw, its 2025–2026 elections, or its military-backed parliament.
The IPU Executive Committee urged its 184 member parliaments to deny diplomatic legitimacy to the regime and recommended routing all urgent international humanitarian assistance directly through the CRPH and National Unity Government (NUG).
Representing the CRPH at the assembly on Oct. 8, NUG Foreign Minister Zin Mar Aung reaffirmed the democratic coalition’s commitment to building a federal democratic Myanmar where public resources serve the citizens and all people have a voice in determining their security.
Zin Mar Aung was originally elected to represent Yangon’s Yankin Township in 2015 and re-elected in 2020 before the coup voided the results.
The IPU Executive Committee noted that while the parliament elected in 2020 has been prevented from convening physically since February 2021, the CRPH continues to function virtually and within liberated areas across Myanmar.
