Patrick Mahomes is accustomed to managing enormous expectations on the football field, but even a three-time Super Bowl MVP can lose track of things away from the game.
With the Kansas City Chiefs preparing for another important stretch of their season, the quarterback admitted that his focus on football had caused him to overlook a major event at home: Halloween.

Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, have three young children: Sterling, 5, Bronze, 3, and Golden, 21 months.
With Halloween approaching, families across the United States are preparing costumes and celebrations, but the Chiefs star acknowledged that the occasion had barely crossed his mind.
“It surprised me. I forgot about Halloween,” Mahomes said. “Brittany was like what are gonna be for Halloween and I’m like, I didn’t even think about that. I’m so locked in on this week and the season and stuff.”
The admission offers a glimpse into the demands of an NFL season, when preparation can dominate a player's schedule. For Mahomes, the pressure is particularly significant as Kansas City pursues success and works to maintain its competitive standards.
His comments do not suggest that he has neglected his children, but they do illustrate how easily family plans can slip down the priority list when professional responsibilities take over.
Fortunately, Brittany appears to have the Halloween arrangements under control, leaving the quarterback to concentrate on football while the family decides on costumes.
When asked what the children would wear, Mahomes kept the details secret.
“I can’t tell now,” Mahomes said. “There’s options because you never know with kids, so we have multiple options. I don’t even know yet. I just know a couple of the options.”
Mahomes' commitment to Kansas City leaves little room for distractions
Mahomes' Halloween oversight comes during a demanding period for the Chiefs. The quarterback has been working to maintain the team's momentum while preparing for changes within the receiving corps, with injuries to Tyquan Thornton and Rashee Rice creating additional challenges ahead of the Week 6 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Mahomes has expressed confidence in younger options Cyrus Allen and Jalen Royals, who could be asked to take on larger roles.
“Just be ready; they’ve put in the work,” he told reporters.
“They’ve had to put in the work at practice, and they’ve been doing that. Now when their number gets called, they’re going to step into a role and do their job. I’m excited for them. We’ll put them in position to succeed. I have a lot of trust in those guys, a lot of confidence in them.”
That preparation reflects the attention required to keep Kansas City's offense functioning when familiar options are unavailable.
Developing timing with receivers takes repetition, communication and hours of practice, making it understandable that Mahomes' thoughts remain firmly on the upcoming game.
His workload has also been shaped by rehabilitation following an ACL tear suffered in December 2025. Recovering from such a significant injury requires discipline, while returning to the demands of professional football adds another layer of responsibility.
Brittany Mahomes has played a crucial role at home
Mahomes has openly acknowledged how much his wife's support has meant during his recovery.
Speaking with Mitch Holthus on The Chiefs Kingdom Show at Arrowhead earlier this month, he praised Brittany for taking on additional responsibilities while he spent long hours rehabilitating.
“I think that that was something that’s huge for me because, she had being a mom to three, I mean, she had to kind of take on that role on even more because I wasn’t at the house. I was spending seven hours a day over there in the offseason when we’re supposed to be on vacation or back home in Texas,” he said.
“It’s a full commitment from the full family, and I think she did a great job of kind of being that leader of the household when I was having to be in the rehab facility.”
Brittany subsequently shared a clip of his comments on Instagram Stories, responding: “Would do anything for my babies and my husband.”
The exchange highlights the shared effort required to balance professional sport and family life. While Mahomes concentrates on leading Kansas City, Brittany has helped keep things running at home, including the preparations for Halloween.
Ultimately, forgetting about costumes is a relatively minor mistake, but it provides a relatable look at the challenges facing a professional athlete with three young children.
Mahomes' football commitments may dominate his attention during the season, yet his appreciation for Brittany's support makes clear that he recognizes the sacrifices his family makes alongside him.
