The Thuckalay police have registered a case against Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) functionary for allegedly sexually harassing a college student in Kanniyakumari district.
The police said the survivor, a resident of Kulasekaram, and her friend, a TVK party member from Moolachal, were waiting for a bus in Nagercoil on Wednesday, when L. Christopher, a TVK functionary from Marundhukottai, offered them a ride in his car.
After dropping her friend at Moolachal, Christopher allegedly proceeded to drop the survivor in Kulasekaram. The crime was allegedly committed during the journey, the police said.
The survivor subsequently lodged a complaint at the Kotticode police station. The complaint was later transferred to the Thuckalay police, who registered a case on Thursday.
Further investigations are under way.
