Cristiano Ronaldo said in an interview with CNN Portugal (currently unavailable at its original link) about his place in football history, now that he is close to reaching one thousand goals. The Portuguese star sounded somewhat resentful because he is not valued as he believes he deserves.

“People do not value my fitness level or my goals", he said, in remarks reported by The Athletic. Regarding the race for one thousand goals (he currently has 980), he also expressed his discomfort.
Things have to happen naturally. If I score 920 goals, 925, 930... I will be the best in history, and that's it. The numbers speak for themselves. If I reach 1,000 goals, it will be incredible, an objective, but I don't think long term, he said.
'About his future, Cristiano Ronaldo did not want to set a date for his retirement. "I don't know what will happen tomorrow. Maybe I'll wake up unmotivated and no longer want to play, I simply don't know”, he explained.'
