Old Mutual Investment Group Uganda (OMIG) has won the Market Development Excellence Award in Collective Investment Schemes at the annual Capital Markets Awards hosted by the Capital Markets Authority of Uganda (CMA).
The award recognises OMIG’s contribution to the development of Uganda’s collective investment schemes market.
The company was also named second runner-up in the Longevity & Commitment to Uganda’s Capital Market category, acknowledging its contribution to the growth and development of the country’s capital markets.
The awards were presented as CMA marked 30 years of regulating and developing Uganda’s capital markets. The recognition highlights the role of market participants in mobilising savings, expanding investment opportunities and promoting broader participation in the financial system.
Through its collective investment schemes, OMIG provides individual investors with access to professionally managed investment portfolios.
Its Money Market, Balanced, Umbrella and Dollar Funds offer different investment options designed to accommodate varying financial objectives and investor needs.
The company also serves institutional investors through investment management services and participates in the broader capital markets through securities brokerage, dealing and investment advisory services.
In its September anniversary update, CMA reported that assets under management in collective investment schemes had reached shs7.06 trillion, reflecting the growing role of professionally managed investments in mobilising savings in Uganda.
Commenting on the recognition, OMIG Managing Director Zac Kisesi said the awards reflected the company's efforts to broaden access to investment opportunities and contribute to the development of the country's capital markets.
“We are honoured to receive the Market Development Excellence Award for Collective Investment Schemes and to be recognised as second runner-up in the Longevity & Commitment to Uganda’s Capital Market category,” Kisesi said.
“These awards reflect the work our teams have put into mobilising savings, widening access to investment opportunities and contributing to the growth of Uganda’s capital markets. We share this recognition with our clients, financial advisors and partners whose continued confidence and commitment support our work,” he added.
Kisesi said the company would continue working to expand investor participation, strengthen its investment capabilities and contribute to the development of Uganda’s investment landscape.
OMIG is also developing its private wealth offering, with a focus on providing tailored investment solutions aligned with clients’ individual financial goals and long-term wealth objectives.
The company is further expanding into alternative investments, broadening the range of opportunities through which capital can be deployed.
According to OMIG, these developments are intended to respond to changing investor needs, diversify investment opportunities and contribute to the continued growth and sophistication of Uganda’s capital markets.
As part of the celebrations, OMIG participated in the Capital Markets Symposium, held under the theme “Reimagining Uganda’s Capital Markets for a Sustainable Future.”
The symposium brought together market participants and other stakeholders to assess the progress of Uganda’s capital markets and explore opportunities to deepen participation and support sustainable growth.
OMIG also took part in the 2026 Corporate Run, another activity organised as part of the anniversary programme, in support of safer childbirth.
Funds raised through the run will support the provision of Mama Kits to expectant mothers in Buvuma Island, Karamoja and Kyampisi in Mukono District.
The initiative linked the anniversary celebrations to efforts aimed at supporting maternal health in communities across the country.
OMIG said it remains focused on serving clients, mobilising capital and contributing to the development of Uganda’s investment management industry.
The recognition comes amid continued efforts to expand access to collective investment schemes and strengthen the role of capital markets in mobilising savings for investment.
As Uganda’s capital markets evolve, investment managers, regulators and other market participants are expected to remain central to widening investor participation and developing a broader range of financial products.
