The organising committee of the proposed Zubeen Garg Mahotsav has temporarily suspended all programmes scheduled for November 18, 19 and 20, declaring that no celebratory events will be held until justice is delivered to the late singer.
In a statement, the committee said the decision was taken in view of the sentiments of Zubeen Garg’s family members and admirers. It further announced that no festival-related programmes would be organised in the future until the singer receives justice.
The move comes amid growing concerns over the proposed event, with several prominent personalities, including Zubeen Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, distancing themselves from the festival.
Meanwhile, singer Amritprava Mahanta, an accused in the Zubeen Garg death case, was released on bail from Haflong sub-jail in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Tuesday. Her family members were present to receive her as she walked out of the prison.
The Gauhati High Court granted Mahanta bail on October 9 against a bond of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of the same amount.
