By Santosh Raut, Solukhumbu, Oct. 14: Tourist arrivals in the upper region of Solukhumbu district have started increasing with the beginning of the autumn tourist season.
The number of visitors coming to Khumbu to enjoy the scenic beauty of Mount Everest, the world's highest peak, and other magnificent mountain ranges has been rising day by day. Toya Shrestha, a hotel entrepreneur in Lukla, said that although tourist arrivals began sporadically towards mid-September, the movement of foreign tourists along the trekking trails has now increased.
According to the Civil Aviation Office in Lukla, the number of flights to Tenzing-Hillary Airport has been increasing daily as more tourists arrive by air. Sita Air, Tara Air, Summit Air and Nepal Airlines have been operating daily flights to Lukla.
Although tourist arrivals are increasing daily, rainfall has made trekking difficult for visitors.
Some tourists have reached Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla via Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, while others have travelled on foot via Phaphlu to reach Khumbu. Tourists have been entering the Khumbu region since early September. The region generally receives a large number of visitors from September through November.
The Everest region attracts the highest number of foreign tourists during this period of the year. The season offers spectacular natural scenery, and the risk of altitude sickness is also said to be relatively lower.
With the rise in tourist arrivals, staff at the Jorsalle entry point of the Sagarmatha National Park Office have been facing an increased workload in registering visitors, according to the office.
All tourists entering the Everest region via trekking trails or air routes are required to register at the Jorsalle entry point. The tourist information centre at the office also provides visitors with basic information about the rules they must follow in the Khumbu region and precautions to take when travelling to high-altitude areas.
