The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal presented by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, in his capacity as the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, to award a Rs. 562.04 million contract to the National Water Supply and Drainage Board for constructing two new wastewater treatment plants at the Welipenna service area on the Southern Expressway.
The Welipenna service area is maintained by Canowin Hotels and Spas (Private) Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of the Sri Lanka Insurance Corporation.
Following an evaluation of the existing facilities, the National Water Supply and Drainage Board identified that the current wastewater treatment plants have insufficient capacity to meet demand.
The board submitted a report recommending the construction of two new treatment plants, each designed with a processing capacity of 200 cubic meters per day, to resolve the issue. (Newswire)
