President Bola Tinubu has approved the reinstatement of the Permanent Secretary, Finance (Special Duties), Mohammed Danjuma, two months after he was suspended over an investigation into the activities of a purported government agency.
The reinstatement was conveyed in a letter dated October 22, 2026, by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Olumuyiwa Abel, who confirmed that Danjuma’s return to office took effect from October 21.
The development followed Danjuma’s suspension on August 21, 2026, alongside two other permanent secretaries, after a report by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission raised concerns about the activities of an organisation known as the National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office.
Why Danjuma was suspended
The organisation was allegedly promoted by George Buchi Nwabueze, with suspected involvement of some public servants in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The suspension of the three permanent secretaries followed the ICPC’s report on the organisation, although the letter announcing Danjuma’s reinstatement did not provide further details about the specific allegations against him or the findings of the investigation.
The suspension was part of the actions taken following concerns raised about the organisation’s activities and the alleged involvement of public officials.
Tinubu approves return to office
According to the letter, the President approved the lifting of Danjuma’s suspension after due diligence and directed him to resume his official responsibilities in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations governing the Federal Civil Service.
“Following due diligence, Tinubu approved the lifting of Danjuma’s suspension and directed him to resume his duties in accordance with the Public Service Rules, relevant regulations and ethical standards of the Federal Civil Service,” the letter stated.
The letter further confirmed that the reinstatement took effect on October 21, 2026, formally ending the suspension that began on August 21.
Status of other suspended officials unclear
Danjuma’s reinstatement returns him to his position as Permanent Secretary, Finance (Special Duties), following the period of suspension linked to the investigation.
However, the letter did not indicate whether the investigation into the National Brands Development and Made in Nigeria Special Project Office had been concluded or whether any findings had been established against the officials involved.
It also did not clarify the status of the two other permanent secretaries who were suspended alongside Danjuma in August, leaving their positions following the latest decision unclear.
