BTS’s V has unintentionally triggered a heated discourse on social media with his recent fashion choice.

During rehearsals at Estadio Nacional for the ARIRANG World Tour’s Chile concert on October 15, V was spotted wearing a pair of trousers made by a Japanese brand called JULIUS. The pleated, floor-length pants are a part of the brand’s avant-garde line, and are marketed as “Lungi Trousers.”

As the information about the pants surfaced on social media, Indian fans were left disappointed and enraged— not at the idol, but at the brand. Many pointed out that the design was a blatant appropriation of traditional Indian attire without any proper credit.
imagine the outrage from japanese people
If an indian designer copied a japanese traditional dress and gave it some weird name like “avant garde” instead of its traditional name https://t.co/E49qdVyInk

WTF ?
Lungi trousers ????
Its literally Indian dhoti/lungi
Does that japanese designer gave credit to India ?Imagine if indian designer copied japanese clothing and named it whatever https://t.co/ZB0rg56BZG

and why is a japanese designing lungi and selling it as avant garde? IF we rebrand kimono and sell it as a luxury post shower robe, we will face backlash right? https://t.co/ZfH2vsTu98

Others also pointed out that the brand had mislabeled the style, calling it a “Lungi,” when the pleated style actually resembled the draped “Dhoti,” which clearly showed the lack of proper research into the very cultural attire it was trying to imitate.
Avant grade what ??? Why the fuck japanese are appropriating indian cultural attires ?
It's a "dhoti " fgs https://t.co/TtV9JzLLY2 pic.twitter.com/pIWlRwe8RN— 🪷 (@mysticalyyours) October 15, 2026
