Canada's Northland Power (TSX: NPI) has installed all 73 turbines at its 1.0-GW Hai Long offshore wind farm in the Taiwan Strait, and every unit is now producing electricity, Riviera Maritime Media reported on October 19.
The project sits between 45 km and 70 km off Changhua County and ranks among the largest offshore wind developments in Asia. Once complete, it is expected to supply enough power for more than one million households in Taiwan. A 30-year offtake agreement underpins its revenues, which Northland expects to support its cash flow over the long term.
Northland said that bringing the full turbine fleet online "substantially advances Hai Long toward final completion and reduces the project's remaining construction risk."
The developer said Hai Long is still on schedule to receive final permitting approvals in the first half of 2027. Total construction spending has stayed in line with the company's original forecasts.
Christine Healy, Northland's chief executive, said that installing every turbine and generating power across the whole site showed the company could carry out large and complex offshore wind projects safely. She credited the joint project teams, contractors, suppliers and partners for the progress. Healy added that Hai Long demonstrated Northland's ability to build and run energy infrastructure around the world.
