The residents of Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State can now live a near normal life after the state government relaxed a curfew in the area to allow movement from 6 am to 9 pm daily.
Movement restriction is now 9 pm to 6 am in Lamurde where the last recurrence of a long running communal clash over land prompted a 24-hour curfew in April this year and was later reduced to dusk to dawn.
Concluding that communal confidence has returned enough to allow for longer daytime movement, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri announced the new relaxed curfew regime, urging the people not to abuse their new freedom.
Governor Fintiri, explaining in a press statement on Friday that his administration's decision was informed by reports indicating sustained calm and improved security in the area, warned that he would not condone any attempt to disrupt the peace achieved so far, as security operatives had been directed to ensure strict compliance with the curfew.
He urged traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups and women’s groups to continue promoting peace and embracing dialogue to resolve differences.
The statement from his Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, quoted the governor as saying, "Adamawa remains a state known for tolerance and unity; all stakeholders are required to work together to preserve that reputation."
DAILY POST reports that from July 2025 to now, at least three major clashes have occurred between the Bachama and Tshobo communities of Lamurde, leading to loss of dozens of lives and destruction of houses, vehicles and other valuable assets.
In December 2025, renewed clashes and associated protests by women from the Tshobo communities over alleged unprofessional acts of soldiers sent to quell the communal clashes, caused the death of nine of the women.
In March and April this year, renewed clashes erupted in Lamurde LGA headquarters, Lamurde town, as well as Kwah and Gyakan, resulting in further human casualties and the razing of hundreds of houses.
Each of the instances led to imposition of curfew, starting typically as full day and night movement restriction that got relaxed as government noticed improvements in communal order, as in the case of the latest allowance for 6 am to 9 pm movement freedom.
