KUALA LUMPUR: Police have detained two foreigners in connection with the discovery of a dead baby girl in a rubbish bin in Abdullah Hukum, Bangsar, yesterday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the suspects, a 23-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman, were arrested in Brickfields following investigations and tip-offs from the public.
"We believe they are linked to this case, and investigations are ongoing.
"We also appreciate the information provided by the public, which helped police track them down," he said at a press conference after the Wangsa Maju police headquarters Amanita Adoptive Park programme at PPR Laksamana, Jalan Peel, here today.
Asked whether the suspects were married, Fadil said it was still under investigation.
He said the baby was believed to have been around seven months into the pregnancy when Alam Flora workers found her body at a waste disposal area near Abdullah Hukum.
The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code.
Brickfields district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said yesterday that police received a report of the discovery at 10.43am.
The body was found in a rubbish bin in an apartment complex before being sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem.
