European independent power producer R.Power announced on Wednesday, October 14, that it is progressing with its second utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS) in Romania and the region.
The company’s 100 MW / 200 MWh project, Studina BESS, is located in Olt County, southern Romania. Like the nearby project, Scornicesti (127MW / 254 MWh), which is now nearing completion, Studina is a standalone system that will add significant storage capacity to the Romanian network, supporting grid stability and energy security.
The project sits within a wider CEE pipeline that includes 0.9GW / 3GWh of assets in operation and under construction, alongside 0.7 GW / 2.8 GWh of commercialised, ready-to-build projects.
R.Power has appointed an experienced contractor to handle Balance of Plant and high-voltage grid connection works for the project, which will connect to the national distribution grid, according to the company press release.
Construction is expected to begin in Q4 this year, ahead of an expected connection date in Q3 2027.
“Having advanced our flagship Romanian BESS, Scornicesti, through financing, commercialisation and construction, we are now pleased to set the wheels in motion for Studina, which will play an equally important role in supporting the regional energy transition,” said Florin Federenciuc, R.Power Country Head for Romania.
Founded in 2010 and headquartered in Warsaw, R.Power has evolved from one of the largest renewable energy developers in Central & Eastern Europe into a pan-European IPP, with 1.9GW of projects operational or under construction.
