Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is exploring opportunities to enhance collaboration with Germany across joint research funding, academic mobility, and capacity building for higher education institutions.
Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto stated that the potential partnership could create broader opportunities for Indonesian students and researchers to gain international academic experience while fostering research collaborations delivering meaningful impacts.
"We are considering the development of joint research. We could provide funding from the Indonesian side, with the German side also contributing funding," Yuliarto said in a statement on Thursday.
Yuliarto noted that collaboration with Germany has the potential to improve access and mobility options for both students and professors.
Looking ahead, the partnership aims to facilitate international academic exposure while encouraging knowledge and cultural exchange between universities.
German Ambassador to Indonesia Ralf Beste highlighted that affordable education costs in Germany present a favorable factor for Indonesian students seeking to study abroad.
Meanwhile, German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) President Joybrato Mukherjee emphasized the importance of partnerships yielding mutual benefits for both nations.
Mukherjee cited biodiversity research and urban development as key fields requiring combined knowledge and expertise from both Indonesia and Germany.
Both parties discussed establishing an operational Joint Working Group to discuss priorities, identify partner universities, and determine viable collaboration schemes.
The initiative is expected to serve as a foundational step toward deeper, sustainable international collaboration to advance higher education, research, and national development.
