KUALA LUMPUR: IHH Healthcare Bhd, through its wholly-owned subsidiary Pantai Medical Centre Sdn Bhd, has entered into an agreement to acquire Afiniti Wellness in Medini, Iskandar Puteri, Johor, laying the foundation for an integrated healthcare campus spanning approximately 18 acres.
The acquired property will be developed into a dedicated Ambulatory Care Centre (ACC) for consultations, diagnostics, day surgery, and other outpatient services. The move forms a key part of Gleneagles Hospital Johor's next phase in Medini.
Moving selected outpatient and daycase services to a dedicated setting will provide patients with more convenient access to treatment that does not require admission, while allowing Gleneagles Johor to optimize its existing infrastructure for patients requiring higher-acuity and more complex care.
The expansion comes as Johor prepares for the upcoming Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), a priority sector of which is healthcare. Demand for quality care is expected to grow alongside the JS-SEZ, which is set to accelerate the movement of people, talent, and investment along the Johor-Singapore corridor.
Dr Kamal Amzan, chief executive officer of IHH Healthcare Malaysia, said:
"Johor is entering an important period of growth with establishment of the JS-SEZ, and Gleneagles Johor is ready to support the state's rising healthcare needs," said Dr Kamal Amzan, chief executive officer of IHH Healthcare Malaysia.
He added IHH is committed to long-term investment in Gleneagles Johor.
"For IHH Healthcare Malaysia, the opportunity is not simply to become bigger. It is to build greater clinical depth where it is needed and ensure patients can access increasingly sophisticated care closer to home," Dr Kamal added.
Together with IHH Healthcare Malaysia's existing landbank in Medini, the planned healthcare campus is expected to support approximately 350 inpatient beds upon completion of the ACC.
A further 150-bed inpatient block is currently under evaluation as part of the hospital's longer-term plans for tertiary and quaternary care.
Since opening in 2015, Gleneagles Johor has delivered more than 1.7 million inpatient, daycare, and outpatient episodes of care. Over 100 specialists and more than 1,200 healthcare professionals provide care at the hospital across key specialties including Oncology, Cardiology, Orthopaedics, Neuroscience, and Women & Children's Health.
Gleneagles Johor's clinical capabilities include da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery, robotic-assisted joint replacement systems, PET-CT, LINAC, and other specialized diagnostic and treatment platforms.
