Members of the Yoruba Leaders of Thought have eulogised the elder statesman and their national chairman, Prince Tajudeen Olusi, on his 90th birthday celebration, describing him as the pillar of the progressive group in the country and the moral compass for the Yoruba nation.
The group said that “Olusi’s commitment to the ideals of good governance and welfare of the masses remains unwavering”, pointing out that this had characterised his involvement in politics since the pre-independence days.
The YLT, in a statement by its National Secretary, Mr Bayo Aina, made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti on Tuesday, rejoiced with the elder statesman on his birthday and wished him more years as the leader of the group and Yoruba nation.
Aina stated that the Lagos prince, who is also the chairman of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council, “has, in his capacity as the chairman, helped to shape the leadership succession in the state to the extent that the state remains a model for other states to emulate.
“Lagos State standing as the most developed state in the federation is a pointer to the commitment of Olusi and other leaders, including President Bola Tinubu, to drawing out succession programmes that have engendered good governance.
“Prince Olusi’s integrity and wisdom have become a well that leaders across the board draw inspiration from, saying this accounted for his closeness to President Tinubu, who sees him not only as an ally but a confidant.”
YLT said the elder statesman had lived a life of honour and service, which had endeared him to many politicians who look up to him as their mentor.
According to the statement, Prince Olusi was born on October 13, 1936, to the late Oba of Lagos, Oba Sanusi Olusi, and was elected a councillor in the Lagos Town Council at the age of 28.
He was elected to the House of Representatives between 1979 and 1983. He also served as the Commissioner for Commerce in Lagos State between 1993 and 1996.
The statement added that “Prince Olusi was recently installed Baba Adinni of Yorubaland. He also holds the title of Atobatele of Ado Ekiti, where his mother was a princess. He is at present the Chairman of the Lagos State Governor Advisory Council.
