Members of various organisations held a rally in Vijayapura on Sunday (October 11) in solidarity with the anti-SIR protesters who faced police action and arrests in New Delhi.
They gathered at Dr. Ambedkar Circle and shouted slogans against the BJP-led Union government for “trying to repress all pro-people protests by force’’.
Bhagwan Reddy, SUCI (C) district secretary, said that the Delhi protests were taken out by several organisations for a valid cause: protecting Constitutional values. “The protests were not limited to any party, ideology or caste or religion. They were meant to be peaceful and not disturb law and order. But the police used repressive measures against protesters,’’ he said.
Bhimray Pujari, CPI(M) leader, said that the Union government was going to unprecedented lengths to protect CEC Gyanesh Kumar, who had taken unconstitutional decisions with regard to SIR.
Abdul Quadeer of Eddelu Karnataka said the NDA government was running an autocratic and fascist regime by twisting Constitutional provisions.
Surekha Rajput, Sunanda Nayak, Sidramayya Hiremath, Fayaz Kaladagi, Shivabalamma Kondaguli, Shivaranjiji, Suvarna Halagarni and others were present.
