RANTAU PANJANG: Kelantan police will enlist community leaders and members of the public to strengthen efforts to combat drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said police welcomed information and cooperation from the public to support ongoing efforts to tackle the drug problem.
He said the force would reach out to community leaders and individuals to encourage them to play an active role in helping the authorities combat drug-related activities.
"The police also welcome any information from the public that can assist our efforts," he said.
Yusoff said Kelantan police declared war on drugs in 2024 to instil a stronger commitment among personnel to combat the problem.
He cited a recent incident in Kampung Lalang Pepuyuh, Tanah Merah, in which a narcotics policeman confronted a man suspected of being a drug addict, as an example of the commitment required in the fight against drugs.
He said police personnel were prepared to face significant risks, including serious injuries, while carrying out their duties to curb drug-related activities.
Yusoff said drug-related offenders could commit various crimes, including violence against family members, while drug abuse could also lead to property crimes.
"Drug abuse is the root cause of many problems. Drug-related criminals can do anything, including harming their own parents or wives, let alone committing property crimes.
"That is why we will continue to focus on combating drugs and make this effort a priority," he said.
He stressed that police would remain committed to tackling the drug problem, adding that public cooperation and information were crucial to strengthening enforcement efforts and protecting the community.
Earlier, Yusoff, accompanied by Kelantan deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Ali Thamby and Kelantan Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief Assistant Commissioner Dr Douglas Nyeging Taong, visited the injured 37-year-old corporal at his home here today.
