Kohima, Oct 13: The Naga Youth Movement (NYM) has submitted a fresh representation to the Nagaland Governor after its members were allegedly denied a meeting at Lok Bhavan in Kohima on Tuesday, renewing its demand for an early resolution to the long-pending Naga political issue.
According to the movement, its members arrived at Lok Bhavan for a scheduled appointment with the Governor but could not meet him. The NYM said its subsequent request for another appointment was also declined, prompting it to submit a fresh representation reiterating its demands.
The movement has urged the Centre to expedite the political process and implement the Framework Agreement signed with the NSCN (IM) on August 3, 2015, and the Agreed Position signed with the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) on November 17, 2017.
The latest appeal follows a public rally organised by the NYM on June 27, 2026, at Agri Expo, 4th Mile, Chümoukedima. The movement had subsequently submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking an urgent political settlement, setting a three-month deadline from July 5, 2026.
Flagging the consequences of the prolonged delay, the NYM cited alleged extortion, lawlessness, youth unemployment, migration, economic uncertainty and divisions within Naga society as issues requiring urgent attention.
The movement has called on the Centre to clarify the status of the two agreements and convene a round-table meeting involving Naga political groups and other stakeholders to work towards a comprehensive and binding settlement.
In its latest representation, the NYM also appealed to Naga youth to take a more active role in seeking accountability from those in positions of authority. It urged young people to step forward and raise their voices if the Governor fails to respond to the representation.
The movement said a lasting resolution to the Naga political issue required concrete action, greater accountability and wider participation by the younger generation.
