PETALING JAYA: PKR has demanded that Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir apologise for claiming that plans to suspend and deregister Perikatan Nasional (PN) were presented at PKR’s national congress in August.
Mukhriz had shared screenshots of four alleged proposals on his social media accounts, including suspending PN’s activities and taking legal action to deregister the coalition.
In a statement, PKR secretary-general Fuziah Salleh accused Mukhriz of using unverified material to falsely implicate PKR in PN’s deregistration.
“The slides Mukhriz shared on his Instagram and Threads accounts were never presented at any PKR congress or convention, nor were they prepared by anyone in the party,” said Fuziah.
Fuziah said PKR’s checks found that the slides first appeared on Facebook on Sept 24.
She stated that while the party’s congress had received extensive media coverage, there were no reports of the slides being presented.
Fuziah said it was disappointing that an experienced politician had shared the material without verifying its authenticity, adding that political differences were no excuse for spreading defamatory claims.
Mukhriz’s posts came after the Registrar of Societies (RoS) deregistered PN today, citing an unsatisfactory response to a show-cause notice.
The action followed a complaint by Bersatu over its exclusion from a PN Supreme Council meeting in July.
Fuziah said the complaint was an internal matter involving PN’s component parties and had nothing to do with PKR.
