More than 8,000 police personnel would be deployed for security duties in view of the Muthuramalinga Thevar Gurupoojai festival in Pasumpon, Ramanathapuram, said District Superintendent of Police G. Chandeesh.
Speaking to reporters here on Saturday, he said, an exhibition of modern weapons for the public and students to view, along with demonstrations regarding riot control vehicles and the functions of sniffer dogs, was held at the Ramanathapuram Armed Reserve ground.
This exhibition was conducted in view of Police Commemoration Day on October 21. Students and the public interacted with the police and learned about the weapons. Further, sports competitions for police families would be organised on Sunday.
He added that the public and motorists should celebrate Ayudha Pooja safely, without causing traffic disruptions, and without causing inconvenience to anyone.
The Pasumpon Thevar Guru puja is scheduled to be held from October 28 to 30.
“As per the order of the District Collector’s order, Section 163 of the BNSS prohibitory order is already in force in Ramanathapuram district. Therefore, gathering without the Collector’s order and police permission is prohibited,” Mr. Chandeesh noted.
Starting October 28, more than 8,000 police personnel under the leadership of senior police officials will be engaged in security duties across Ramanathapuram district. Everything will be monitored from a control room set up in Pasumpon, he stated.
Surveillance would be conducted through more than 1,000 CCTV cameras. All security arrangements are being made to ensure the festival takes place peacefully this year, just like last year. There was no information yet regarding the visit of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, he stated.
