Australian radio host Kyle Sandilands faces $240,000 mansion renovation lawsuit

Australian radio host Kyle Sandilands is facing a legal dispute with the builders who renovated his $3 million mansion in Glenorie, north-west Sydney, over an alleged unpaid bill of $240,000.

The case follows a renovation project that reportedly exceeded its original budget, leaving disagreements over costs, invoices and the agreed payment arrangements. According to realestate(Australia), the construction company claims it has not received payment for work completed at the property, while Sandilands has questioned the charges and requested further financial details.

Why is Kyle Sandilands facing a $240,000 mansion renovation lawsuit

The dispute centres on the extensive renovation of Sandilands’ Glenorie property, which he purchased in 2022 for $3 million.

The estate includes 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and 4 car spaces. According to realestate(Australia), Sandilands intended to transform the property into a family home and hired Sydney-based construction company Alter Build Co to carry out the work. The company’s owners launched civil court proceedings on 1 October 2026, alleging that Sandilands failed to pay $240,000 for renovation work involving the bathroom, kitchen and laundry.

SSBCrack News also reported the legal action, identifying Alter Build Co as the business seeking the outstanding amount. The claim remains a matter for the court, and the allegations do not establish that Sandilands is legally responsible for the amount demanded. The case instead highlights a disagreement between the homeowner and the company over the final renovation costs and the payment arrangements.

The renovation bill reportedly rose beyond the original budget

According to realestate(Australia), Sandilands initially allocated $1 million for the project, but the total cost reportedly climbed to approximately $1.6 million.Sandilands expressed frustration at being expected to keep making payments without what he considered sufficient clarity about the charges. His comments suggest that the disagreement involves more than the amount now being claimed in court, with the overall project cost also becoming a source of concern.SSBCrack News similarly reported that the renovation exceeded the original budget and that Sandilands believed the building work had become significantly more expensive than anticipated.

The difference between the initial budget and the reported final cost is approximately $600,000, although that figure should not be confused with the separate $240,000 amount at the centre of the legal action.

Sandilands says he wanted clearer financial records

A central issue in the dispute is the documentation surrounding the renovation payments. As reported by realestate(Australia), Sandilands said he began questioning the invoices and wanted evidence of approvals and a complete payment schedule before making further payments. He also suggested that the building company might not have been prepared for a project of this scale. However, his comments did not amount to a rejection of every aspect of the company’s work. He indicated that the experience had provided a lesson for both sides about the importance of paying attention to the details of a major building project.Alter Build Co maintains that a building contract had been signed, with an agreed price and payment schedule, and alleges that Sandilands did not meet the terms of that agreement. These competing positions leave the court proceedings to address the disagreement over the contractual obligations and the outstanding payment.

The mansion has also faced difficulties on the property market

The legal dispute is unfolding alongside challenges surrounding the sale of the Glenorie estate. Realestate(Australia) reported that Sandilands decided to put the property on the market after finding the commute to the city difficult for himself and his wife. The home was listed with a price guide of $5.7 million to $5.9 million.

Despite the substantial difference between that guide and its original $3 million purchase price, the property failed to sell at auction in May 2026, even after an $800,000 price reduction, according to the publication.Sandilands have since moved into another recently renovated property in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The move means the Glenorie mansion is no longer their current family home, although the renovation dispute connected with it remains unresolved. The circumstances also demonstrate how the costs and practical demands of a major property project can continue to have consequences after an owner has moved elsewhere.

What happens next in the renovation payment dispute

The next stage is expected to take place in court on 23 October 2026, according to realestate(Australia) and SSBCrack News. The proceedings will address the claim brought by Alter Build Co and the disagreement over the alleged unpaid renovation bill.Sandilands has maintained that he is not opposed to the builders personally. He has said that he would pay if he were found to be in the wrong, while insisting that he would not pay if the claim was unjustified. His position places the focus on whether the amount being sought is supported by the contractual arrangements and the relevant financial records. The company, meanwhile, has chosen not to provide further public details while the legal process continues.

Neither side’s position should be treated as a final determination of the dispute. For now, the $240,000 claim remains unresolved. The outcome will depend on the legal proceedings and the evidence presented, including the contract, payment schedule and disputed invoices. Until the matter is decided, the case remains an allegation of unpaid building costs rather than a confirmed finding of liability.
